Looking to change up your standard buffalo wings? How about making some honey garlic chicken wings instead. It’s a great break from the heat and good for the entire family to enjoy, especially the kids! And bonus points because the wings are first made on the grill, you get delicious grilled wings finished in a tasty sweet garlic sauce.
Grill the chicken wings first.
I started my cook with full 3 piece wings, but you can get precut chicken wings from your local grocer.
Tip to split the chicken wing: start by separating them directly in the center of the joint and cutting along the center with your knife.
Once the wings are split into sections, in a large bowl, toss in olive oil and season them with equal parts salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder.
Heat up the Big Green Egg grill to 350 degrees direct heat and place the wings onto elevated grates. Make sure to flip sides every 5 minutes for about 35-40 minutes or until wings reach an internal temperature of 190-195 degrees.
How to make the Honey Garlic Sauce
While the wings are on the grill, it’s time to make the sauce. In a sauce pan add a stick of butter, minced garlic, minced ginger, honey, soy sauce and juice from 1 lemon. Let the ingredients simmer over low heat for 10 minutes for the butter to melt and mix nicely together for that perfect wing coating. The aroma from this sauce fills the kitchen with that sweet and tangy scent. Trust me, you’ll be salivating before this recipe is ready!
Time to sauce up the chicken wings and eat!
Time to toss the wings in your special sauce! Once the wings are cooked, place them in a large bowl and toss with that delicious, fragrant sauce. Make sure to coat all the wings around all sides for that optimal flavor with eat bite.
Top off the honey garlic chicken wings with some chopped green onion and sesame seeds. Serve and enjoy!
