Step 1: How to prep maple bourbon wings.
I always go with fresh detached chicken wing pieces which helps with time management. To start, coat the raw wing pieces in olive oil and season them with Dad’s Maple Bourbon rub. With sweet and savory notes, this rub will elevate your everyday wings. Make sure to get an even coat throughout.
Dad’s Seasonings
Must have grillin seasonings!
Step 2: How to grill the perfect maple bourbon wings.
Heat up the grill to 375 degrees and set it for indirect heat. Place the seasoned wings directly on the grates and let them cook for 45-60 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 180 degrees. Flip the wings half way through to ensure an even cook throughout.
Take the grilled dry rub wings off the grill and let them rest by covering them with a sheet of foil. Serve and enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- Grill on indirect heat to avoid the skin from burning
- Grill at a higher temperature to get the skin crispy
Step 3 (optional): Make a homemade maple bourbon sauce.
If you prefer saucy wings, make this homemade maple bourbon sauce to compliment the flavor of the wings.
In a saucepan, add maple syrup, bourbon of choice, brown sugar, Dad’s Maple Bourbon Rub, butter and dijon mustard for a little bit of tanginess. Whisk the ingredients together and simmer over low heat until the sauce thickens.
Toss the grilled maple bourbon wings in the homemade sauce, serve and enjoy!
If you enjoy homemade BBQ sauces, try my sweet and tangy BBQ sauce. Use this as your base sauce for all your grilled or smoked meats.
Recipe Tip
- Adjust the flavor profiles of the glaze to your liking. I prefer my glaze on the sweeter size, therefore I add a little more brown sugar. For more savory notes, use more bourbon and mustard. Taste as you mix.
- The alcohol will burn off during the cooking process making it safe to eat by children.
Frequently Asked Questions:
The trick to crispy skin is to cook the wings at a higher temperature. I like the range between 350-375 degrees. Tossing your wings in olive oil before seasoning will also help.
A great substitute for the alcohol is apple juice or simply just leave it out.
