One of the greatest fingers foods, in my opinion, are wings. They are perfect for tailgating, parties and everything in between. With halloween around the corner, these Bat Wings are the perfect freaky treat to serve your guests.  They taste like chicken, but are they? Grilled to perfection,  these hot wings dyed in black food coloring have traditional bbq wing flavors with crispy skin.

Step 1: Black marinade

Start with about 2 pounds of whole 3 piece chicken wings. Toss them in olive oil then season with Dad’s All Purpose seasoning

Next, in a bowl, add hot sauce, soy sauce, honey, bbq sauce and black food dye.  Mix the ingredients together.  Place the seasoned chicken wings in a ziplock bag and pour in the black marinade.  Close it up and make sure to cover everything in the sauce.

Set it in the fridge for at least 1 hour and allow it to marinate and soak in the color.

Dad’s Seasonings

Must have grillin seasonings!

Step 2: How to grill the perfect chicken wings

Marinated bat wings

Preheat the grill to 375 degrees and set it for indirect heat.

Place the marinated bat wings on the grill and cook them for 45-60 minutes or until the wings internal temperature reaches 180 degrees.  Flip the wings half way through to ensure an even cook throughout.

Serve with some BBQ or hot sauce for dipping and enjoy!

Wing Grilling Tips

  • Grill on indirect heat to avoid the skin from burning
  • Grill at a higher temperature to get the skin crispy

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I make this in the oven or stove top?

All my recipes can be replicated in the oven, stove top or gas grill. You do not need a big green egg or weber grill to replicate any of my recipes.

How do get a tender meat and crispy skin on chicken wings?

The best way to avoid dry meat or know if any protein is ready is to check the internal temperature. Wings are no different. Grill over indirect heat for the and remove the wings at 180 internal degrees for the perfect tender and juicy meat and crispy skin
