Step 1: How to make the best sweet whiskey sauce.
This homemade sweet whiskey sauce is the perfect topping to this recipe, tying everything together.
To start, in a saucepan, add whiskey or bourbon of choice, honey, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce and Dad’s All Purpose rub. Whisk the ingredients together. Bring the contents to a boil and then let it simmer over low heat while the sauce thickens up. Boiling the liquid will cook off any alcohol from the whiskey making is safe to eat by children. If you prefer not to use alcohol, simply use all the ingredients excluding the whiskey.
Dad’s Seasonings
Must have grillin seasonings!
Step 2: Prep the Chicken Skewers.
For this recipe, I went with chicken thighs. I personally prefer thighs over breast as they are fattier and have more flavor. That said, feel free to use whichever cut you like most. Cut the chicken into 1 inch cubes and season with Dad’s All Purpose rub. Next cube up a few peaches and red onion. I recommend using slightly harder peaches. They will soften up on the grill without getting mushy.
Next, skewer the ingredients and these are ready to hit the grill.
Recipe Tip
- If using wooden skewers, soak them in water so they can absorb the moisture and not burn during the cooking process. I recommend using metal skewers. They are reusable and durable.
Step 3: Grill the peach and whiskey chicken skewers.
Set the grill to high direct heat at 450 degrees and place the chicken and peach skewers on the grill. Flip every minute for a total of 10 minutes or until the meat reaches 175 degrees internal temp. Before serving, brush the skewers with the sweet whiskey sauce and leave them on the grill for another minute allowing the sauce to caramelize over the chicken and peaches. Enjoy!
Frequently Asked Questions:
There are two things you can do to the recipe to avoid alcohol. First, you can replace it with apple cider vinegar or just avoid the ingredient all together. Whiskey is added for flavor only.
Yes, any chicken thigh recipe can be replaced with the breast. The breast is leaner than the thighs, therefore remove the meat at 160 degrees and let it rest. This will ensure a tender and juicy chicken breast.
