Grilled wings are one of my favorite things to make. From dry to saucy wings, sweet to spicy, the options are endless. For these Sweet and Spicy Wings I went with a mix of both. A little sweet and a little spicy. This recipe is simple, quick and perfect for tailgating season!

grilled sweet and spicy wings on a plate, topped with parsley.

Grill the chicken wings first.

In a large bowl, toss the chicken wings in olive oil and season them with Dad’s All Purpose rub. Toss them around to make sure each piece is nicely seasoned.

Heat up the grill to 350 degrees and set it for indirect heat. Arrange the wings directly on the grate and cook for 40-45 minutes, flipping halfway through. The target internal temperature is 185 degrees. Chicken wings are dark meat and are more fatty. They need to cook to a little longer to get them very tender.

How to make the Sweet BBQ Sauce

While the wings are on the grill, it’s time to make the homemade BBQ sauce.  In a sauce pan add ketchup, brown sugar, honey, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce and Dad’s All Purpose Rub.  Let the ingredients simmer over low heat for 10 minutes allowing them to mix nicely together for that perfect wing coating. Trust me, you’ll be salivating before this recipe is ready!

When ready, toss the wings in the sauce. Be sure to get them coated on all sides.

Top off the sweet and spicy wings with some chopped parsley. Serve and enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I make this in the oven or stove top?

Absolutely! Follow the same times and temperatures as listed in the recipe. The only downside of making these in the oven is that you won’t have that delicious mild smokey flavor.

How do I get crispy skin on wings?

The trick to crispy skin is to cook the wings at a higher temperature. I like the range between 350-375 degrees. Tossing your wings in olive oil before seasoning will also help.

Absolute best chicken wing recipe! You better double or triple the recipe because a single batch is not enough.
