Ingredients needed to Grill a Steak Salad with Horseradish Dressing

- Steak: I used a NY Strip for it’s tenderness and great marbling. A Sirloin or Ribeye will work great as well.
- Lettuce: romaine lettuce is perfect for this recipe. Sliced in half, you can lightly grill the inside for a crispy char to add flavor and texture.
- Veggies: simple cherry tomatoes is all you need for a burst of freshness. Cucumbers and red onion are great alternatives.
- Horseradish: bold, zesty flavor that makes this dressing stand out.
- Mayo: creamy base that pairs well with the course horseradish.
- Dijon mustard: adds tanginess to the the salad dressing.
- Apple cider vinegar: adds acidity to the dressing and making it less thick.
- Cheese: I went with a nutty parmesan cheese. Adds richness and savoriness. Blue cheese is a great alternative.
- Seasoning: a simple steak seasoning to add flavors of herbs, butteriness and garlic which enhances the flavor of the beef.
Prep the Steak
The secret to this Steak Salad with Horseradish Dressing is in the freshly ground horseradish. Not only did I use it in the dressing, but as a binder for the seasoning.

The zesty, sharp, fresh flavor of the horseradish brightens the savoriness of the steak. Season generously with Dad’s Steak seasoning. Make sure to get the sides as well.
Set the steaks aside allowing the meat to sweat and absorb those amazing flavors.
Recipe Tip
- Bring the steak to room temperature before seasoning.
- Once seasoned, let it sit and sweat. This allows the meat to absorb the seasoning for that extra flavor throughout the each bite.

Must have grillin seasonings!
Grill the Steaks Hot and Fast
Preheat the grill to 400-450 degrees and set it for direct heat. It is very important to make sure the grill is nice and hot before you start the grilling process.
Place the steak on the direct heat side of the grill, cook and flip every 1 minute or so until it reaches your desired internal temperature. The constant flipping will help create a beautiful crust on the outside and an event cook inside. For a medium rare finish, pull it off around 120-125 degrees internal temperature.

It’s OK to check the temp during the grilling process. As a matter of fact, i recommend you do it! That’s the best way to ensure the steak is done to your desired doneness. I like using the Thermapen from Thermoworks. It’s fast, accurate and very durable.
Temperature Guide For Steak
- Medium-rare: 120-130°
- Medium: 130-140°
- Medium-well: 140-150°
If you prefer a medium or medium well cook, keep it on the grill for longer. For medium, remove at 130 degrees, for a more well done steak, you can keep it up until around 140 degrees. Just remember to continuously flip every 30-45 seconds.
Finally, set the steak aside to rest for 10 minutes. It’s very important to rest any protein after a cook. This process helps redistribute all those wonderful juices that will create a beautifully tender slice of meat.
How to make a Creamy Horseradish Dressing

This creamy horseradish dressing is the perfect compliment to the fresh veggies and grilled steak.
In a mixing bowl, add freshly grounded horseradish, mayo, a splash of apple cider vinegar and dijon mustard, honey and salt and pepper. Whisk the ingredients together the sauce is ready!
Assemble the Grilled Steak Salad
While the grill is still hot, slice the Romaine lettuce down the middle to have 2 equal long pieces. Drizzle some olive oil down the inside and place it on the grill. Flip after 1-2 minutes or until you see a light char on the leaves.

With all the ingredients ready it’s time to assemble this easy grilled Steak Salad with Horseradish Dressing.
Remove the romaine off the grill, add some chopped tomatoes, crushed croutons for texture and drizzle the creamy horseradish dressing over the top. Top with some shaved parmesan cheese, add the sliced steak and enjoy!
