Do you ever crave pork belly but don’t have the time or patience to wait until they are perfectly smoked?  Then you will love these Pork Belly Skewers.  You still get the delicious fatty bite with something a little extra, the sauce!  I made a Korean inspired glaze that is out of this world!  The sweet and spicy umami flavor notes are the perfect compliment to the rich and fatty pork belly.

Step 1: How to grill the perfect pork belly skewers?

Pork Belly Skewer ingredients

Grilling pork belly is a very simple process, even easier using skewers.  Cut 6 inch long by 2 inch wide pieces of pork belly and skewer.

I highly recommend using metal skewers vs. wooden. If your only option is wood, then soak them in water for 10-15 minutes before putting on the grill.

Season all sides with your choice of sweet BBQ spice and these are ready to hit the grill.

Preheat the grill to 275 degrees and set for indirect heat.  Place the skewers directly on the grill grates and cook for 45 minutes on 1 side, flip each skewer and cook for another 30 minutes.  Final internal temperature should be around 180 degrees.

Step 2: Let’s get saucy.

This Korean inspired glaze works very well on pork.  This was the first time making this sauce, but definitely not the last.  Next use will be ribs.  I can’t wait!

In a sauce pan add Gochujang, rice vinegar, sesame oil, soy sauce, honey, freshly grated ginger and garlic.  Simmer over low heat until the sauce thickens.  Brush over the grilled pork belly skewers and enjoy!
