If you are looking for that perfect grilled sandwich, look no further than this BBQ Patty Melt recipe.  It’s filled with fatty goodness that I guarantee will satisfy any craving.  Best part of all, it fast and easy to make.

Use the bacon grease as the oil base.

To get started, fire up your griddle to medium heat.

Take a few strips of the double smoked thick cut bacon from Swift Meats, and place them directly on the griddle to crisp up.

While the bacon is simmering to perfection, slice a whole white onion and throw on the griddle in that rendered bacon fat and sauté until golden brown.

While the onions are cooking, add the beef patties.  My local store has great quality fresh patties at the meat counter that I always go to.  No need to make my own.  The one’s I chose were cheese stuffed beef patties.  These will give that extra juiceness once done.

Place the patties on the griddle  and season with salt, pepper and garlic.  Cook 4 minutes per side and then top with a slice of cheese on each.  I used traditional American cheese.  Yeah, yeah, there are better quality cheeses out there, but let’s be honest, is there anything healthy about this recipe? Let the cheese melt on the patties and remove off the griddle.

Finally, last step is to toast up the bread in that same grease for a crispy bite.

Time to assemble the BBQ Patty Melt!

Once all your ingredients are cooked it’s time to assemble the sandwich.  Start with the toast.  Add a layer of bbq sauce and place the patty on top.

Top with some bacon, a spoon full of the sautéed onions, a little bit more bbq sauce and close with another toast.

Slice and enjoy.  This BBQ Patty Melt will not disappoint!
