Nothing says comfort food more than a good meatloaf.  But this is not your mamas meatloaf! I wanted to change up an old fashioned recipe and kick it up a notch making a grilled meatloaf with a spicy glaze instead of the traditional ketchup.  And it came out amazing!  Want to surprise your family with an exciting dinner, here’s the recipe.

Mix your ingredients well

The recipe is very simple.  For the protein blend, I used 2 lbs. of ground beef and 1 lb. of ground pork.  For the beef, I used an 80/20 blend.

Next, add in eggs, breadcrumbs, milk, dijon mustard, bbq sauce, hot sauce, grated onions, carrots, some chopped fresh parsley, salt and pepper.  Mix all the ingredients together by hand.  It’s the best way to ensure that all of the ingredients are mashed well together, especially the 2 types of ground meat.

Transfer the mixture onto a sheet pan and start forming it into a football or bread loaf shape.

Dad’s Seasonings

Must have grillin seasonings!

No need for the oven, grill the meatloaf.

What makes this recipe so special is the smokey flavor you get from making the meatloaf on the grill.  It just adds that something extra!

Heat up the grill to 350 degrees indirect heat.  Grill the meatloaf for about 1 hour.  At the end, glaze the grilled meatloaf with some bbq sauce and let it sit for another 1-2 minutes on the grill for the sauce to caramelize.  The sweetness and spicy notes of the sauce take this boring meatloaf recipe to whole another level!

Once the meat reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees, remove it from the grill and let it rest for 5 minutes. Enjoy!
