Step 1: How to prepare the sausage poper boats
These sausage popper boats are highly customizable. You can go down the sweet route, spicy or savory. Get CREATIVE with the ingredients.
For this recipe, I went with mild Italian sausages so my kids could eat them as well. Split down the middle without cutting all the way through. Shape each sausage into a boat like form.
For the filling I used a block of cream cheese, mild giardiniera, shredded cheddar cheese and Dad’s All Purpose rub. Mix the ingredient together to form a creamy texture.
Recipe Tip
If you like your food a little bit spicier, go with hot Italian sausage and/ or hot giardiniera.
To add additional texture, chop up a jalapeno and add into the mixture.
Next, Fill the sausage boats with about 2 tablespoons of the cheesy mixture, more shredded cheddar cheese on top and a dash of seasoning. Place them on a wire rack.
For extra savoriness, wrap each loaded sausage popper boat with BACON.

Step 2: How to grill these savory sausage popper boats
Preheat the grill to 300 degrees and set for indirect heat. Place the sausage popper boats on the wire rack onto the grill and cook for about 20 minutes. During this time, the sausage will cook through just right and the cheesy mixture will soften and become extra creamy.
Recipe Tip
If you are wrapping the boats in bacon, the cooking process may take a few minutes longer to allow the bacon to crisp up.
Before removing from the grill, always check the internal temperature of the sausage to ensure it’s cooked through.
