This grilled pork chop sandwich definitely delivers on taste, size and protein levels.  Packed with flavor and texture, this is a perfect sandwich to satisfy an appetite.  Best of all it’s fast and easy to make.  Lunch or dinner, this is the perfect pork sandwich.

Step 1: Fry onion strips.

One of the great parts of this grilled pork chop sandwich is the different textures you get with each bite.  One of those textures comes from the homemade crispy onions.  Yes, you can use french’s crispy onions, but it’s so much better when made fresh at home.

To get started, split an onion in half and then slice into long strips.  In a mixing bowl, add flour and Dad’s All Purpose seasoning and blend the 2 ingredients together.  Drop in the onion slices and cover them in the flour mixture.

Fried Onions

Set the grill for direct heat and place a cast iron skilled directly on the grates.  Add enough olive oil to cover half the pan and wait until oil heats up to 375 degrees.

Carefully, add the seasoned onion slices into the oil and wait until they turn a golden brown color before removing.

Place the crispy onion strips on a wire rack or paper towel to allow any access oil to drip off.

Dad’s Seasonings

Must have grillin seasonings!

Step 2: Grill pork chops hot and fast.

When shopping for the boneless pork chops, make sure they are not too thick.  You want to easily bite into the sandwich.

Let the pork chops get to room temperature and season both sides with Dad’s All Purpose seasoning

Preheat the grill to 375 degrees and set it for direct heat. It is very important to make sure the grill is nice and hot before you start the grilling process.

Grilled Pork Chops

Sear the pork chops 5 minutes total flipping them halfway through the cook.  Before removing them off the grill, brush on your BBQ sauce of choice on both sides and let it caramelize over the top. The sauce will add sweetness to the meat.  Once they hit an internal temperature of 140 degrees, remove them off the grill and let them rest for 5 minutes.

Pork Chop Grilling Tip

  • Score the fat caps to avoid boneless pork chops from curling up.
  • Monitor the internal temperature of the pork chop to ensure it cooks to your preferred doneness.
  • Removing the pork chops at 140 degrees will ensure tender and juicy meat.  It is very easy to overcook pork and will leave the pork chops tough and dry.

Step 3: Assemble the grilled pork chop sandwich.

Now that the grilled pork chops have rested and the onions are fried, it’s time to assemble the grilled pork chop sandwich.

First, make sure to toast the bun.  Next, add a thin layer of mayo followed by some chopped lettuce.  Time to add on the grilled pork, with a generous heap of the homemade crispy onions.  Enjoy!
